Selected Program Development

Founding Program Director:
Masters of Fine Arts in Illustration Practice

Maryland Institute College of Art [MICA], Baltimore, MD, 2011–present

Ms Sherman’s template for this graduate program was The Lab, a class she created while Chair of Undergraduate Illustration. Focusing on “the artist as entrepreneur”, The Lab, was an advanced course of independent research and development taking one idea or theme as fully as possible, including prototyping, documenting and/or exhibiting and marketing. Students would expand their idea envisioning it as integrated and important to the visual language of the 21st century. Weekly presentations on and by author/entrepreneurs, research seminars, fabrication workshops and field trips in addition to independent work would be done in a dedicated space designed to support the student. This class was designed for illustrators and other students who wished to take an idea out to existing and emerging market places.
